This is a private reference site, not a Clayton County office. We cannot check live custody, release anyone, post bond, arrange a visit, or retrieve an official booking record. Contact the government office responsible for the record or person directly.
Choose the Correct Record Office
Clayton County jail and booking questions begin with the Sheriff’s Office and Law Enforcement Center. The Sheriff publishes no separate records-unit line, public booking search, or dedicated request form. Requests may be started by email, mail, in person, or by calling for the correct process under Iowa Code chapter 22.

When asking for a booking record or existing photograph, provide the person’s name and approximate booking date. Ask separately for the jail-calendar or booking entry and the photograph. Clayton County publishes no specific mugshot fee or response-time promise, so request a cost estimate before work begins. The office’s accident-report price does not establish a booking-photo fee.
- For a Clayton County mugshot, booking entry, or current jail-status question, follow the request and custody steps on the home page, then contact the Sheriff when official confirmation is needed.
- For someone just arrested in Guttenberg, Monona, Elkader, or another county community, ask the arresting police agency for its incident report and the Sheriff about any Clayton County Jail booking. Not every citation or police contact results in jail intake.
- For release or custody-change alerts, use the Sheriff’s IowaVINE route or call IowaVINE at 1-888-742-8463. VINE is a notification service, not a mugshot roster.
- For a charge, hearing, bond condition, or case disposition, search Iowa Courts Online and contact the court clerk for the specific case. A court file and a jail custody record answer different questions.
- For a warrant that may affect you, use the safe court and attorney routes in the Wanted Fugitives guide. An online name search can be incomplete while an outstanding warrant remains confidential until service.
- For a person sentenced to Iowa state custody or supervision, use the Iowa Department of Corrections offender search. It does not replace Clayton County Jail contact and its public profile does not promise a photograph.
- For a federal prisoner, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator. For immigration detention, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. Neither system reports ordinary Clayton County Jail custody.
